About This Archive

This site is the official online archive of the painter Isanov Mukhtarkhan, a contemporary artist based in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It gathers his paintings in one place so that collectors, curators, gallerists, researchers and visitors can browse the work chronologically, read the title, size and year of each canvas, and study the recurring imagery of a practice that now spans more than four decades.

The paintings move between figuration and symbol. Pomegranates, angels, peris, horses, birds, tandoors, flatbreads and textile patterns return again and again, drawn from Central Asian mythology, from the courtyards and markets of the old city, and from personal memory of childhood in Tokmok and Tashkent. Colour is used structurally rather than decoratively: deep reds and golds carry ritual meaning, while night scenes and eclipses set the figures inside a wider cosmology.

Most works are oil on canvas, many of them large in format, produced in the artist's studio in Tashkent. Titles are given in Russian, the artist's working language, and translated into English throughout this archive so that the same painting can be identified in either language.

The archive is maintained by the artist's studio, which also handles exhibition loans, acquisitions, publication requests and press inquiries. Works are held in museum and institutional collections in Uzbekistan and in private collections across Europe, Asia, Israel and the United States.
